Thousands of Texas fathers wrongfully forced to pay child support

In Texas, nearly 128,000 fathers are paying child support to children who are not theirs. However, a new law is aiming to reduce this statistic.

For example, a Harris County man has been paying $1,400 a month in child support for two children who are not actually his, according to a recent DNA test. Until recently, the law stated that even if a man discovered that he was not the father of the child for whom he was paying child support, he had to continue to pay because it was in the best interest of the child.

The new law gave men until September 1 to ask for DNA testing to show the court that the children receiving their financial support is not theirs. However, if a man found out in the past year that he was not the father, he can still petition the court after the deadline.

Despite potentially releasing men from paying child support to children who are not theirs, critics are still against the limited time period in which men have to file these petitions.

Dennis Rodman in court for allegedly failing to pay child, spousal support

Dennis Rodman is in court after being charged with contempt of court after allegedly failing to pay child and spousal support. Rodman could face jail time if he does not pay what his ex-wife claims that he owes. His sentencing day has just been pushed back because his representation stated that Rodman has made payments.

Rodman will be back in Orange County court on May 29 unless he pays the $860,000 that he allegedly owes to his ex-wife, Michelle Rodman. Rodman was ordered to pay $50,000 a month in total support in 2010, this figure was later pushed back to $4,500 after his lawyer claimed that the original payment was ‘unrealistic.’ Rodman pays child support for these two children and a son from another relationship.

According to court reports, Val Kilmer has sold his New Mexico ranch for $18.5 million. The ranch was originally put on the market for $33 million, but was dropped twice in order for it to sell.

The reason the ranch was put on the market was because it was in the middle of a legal dispute between Kilmer and his ex-wife.
