A national survey into law enforcement agencies across the nation shows that there is a correlation between the increase in domestic violence calls and a slow economy.
According to survey officials, the survey looked into whether economy had an affect on law enforcement activity. Of the 700 law enforcement agencies that were asked, nearly 56 percent stated that the slow economy is causing the number of domestic violence cases to rise.
This is compared to a similar survey done in 2010 where only 40 percent of agencies stated the increase. Domestic violence cases are not filed separately by the FBI, and although overall crime has declined, police officers have stated that domestic violence calls have increased.
