Six dead in domestic violence case

In an extreme case of domestic violence, an individual somehow related to a Spring family killed six of the family members, four of them children, a Houston Chronicle article reported on July 9.

Reports coming from authorities said the shooting incident happened at around 6:00 p.m. in a residential area on Leaflet Lane where responding officers recovered the bodies of the victims, all with gunshot head wounds. Assistant chief deputy Mark Herman said a seventh person identified as a 15-year-old girl survived the incident. The girl reportedly phoned authorities about the shooting incident, leading to the arrest of the suspect identified as 33-year-old Ron Lee Haskell.

Haskell was pursued by police and surrendered after a standoff that lasted hours. Constable Ronald Hickman spoke at a news conference and hinted that although not all of the information had yet been discerned, the violent domestic incident seemed to be related to a divorce or separation in the family.
