Recently elected San Francisco sheriff, Ross Mirkarimi, is facing allegations of domestic abuse.
According to reports, a neighbor called the police after Mirkarimi’s wife told her that her husband struck her on New Year’s Eve, leaving a bruise. The neighbor said that the woman suggested she had been abused for sometime.
Currently no charges have been filed against the longtime city supervisor, but an investigation is ongoing. Mirkarimi denies ever striking his wife and the couple says the allegations are a private, family matter. However, San Francisco residents, including journalists and domestic violence help organizations, are calling for Mirkarimi’s resignation.
