Research: Pricey weddings may result in more divorces

A study recently released by professors at Emory University revealed that couples who spent a significant amount on their wedding have a higher chance of getting divorced, an article of the New York Post stated on October 15.

According to the data compiled by researchers Andrew Francis and Hugo Mialon, couples are 46% more likely than average to get divorced if they spent $20,000 or more on their wedding celebrations. On the other hand, couples who spent between $1,000 and $5,000 on their weddings were 18% less likely than average to get divorced. The research, which was released in September, suggested that couples who spent a lot in their weddings tend were affected afterwards by financial strain.
